#PaintSeptember – Number 2

Today I was looking forward to going out into the countryside with my new pochade box, named Mabel.  However, the weather wasn’t great.   We are in the throws of a ‘sunshine and showers’ day and at times the rain was quite heavy.  So I decided that I would set up Mabel indoors and use one of the photographs I took at Lytes Cary Manor House last weekend to do a painting.  As it was only last week, the scene was still quite fresh in my mind and the photo was quite good, even if I say so myself!

I’ve used Winsor & Newton artists oil paints here on a 22.5 x 15 cm oil painting board.  I painted an undercoat in acrylic to take away the stark white of the canvas.  This makes it easier to get your colours right.   I’m quite pleased with the result as I’ve not done many paintings in oils and it’s a medium that I really want to get to grips with.  So, here’s my progress throughout the afternoon and the finished painting.  Hope you enjoy seeing it develop.
