I’m not sure if I’ve ever mentioned it before, but I love books. I collect them like some people collect ornaments. I especially love art books and have a whole bookcase dedicated to them.
This book by Ian Phillips is one of my latest and I’ve read and re-read it several times. (That’s why there’s not much artwork on here this past week!). I really like Ian’s style and the colour palette that he uses for his Linocuts. He mainly works in a large scale (A2) and that makes for a lot of cutting.
In his books he explains how he became an artist. Why he ended up in the middle of Wales and how he takes his inspiration from the surrounding countryside on his long walks.
Then you move onto beautiful pages full of information about the walks, pictures of his sketchbook and finished prints.
It’s not just a book about art, there’s so much emotion about the countryside and the views that you can’t help feel that you’re there.
Why don’t you have a look at his website and enjoy the full range of his work and if your feeling flush, you could order the book (on his website) yourself.
