Pheasant Linocut – Colour Layer 1

It’s always exciting putting down the first layer of colour and I’ve worked out what the colour order is. So, I’ve begun with the browns. This is a yellow ochre/opaque white mix for the ground and the outline of the wheat sheafs. This is a graduated colour so that the ground area is darker than the air/crop area. I’ve used my monster roller from T N Lawrence which has fantastic printmaking supplies. The roller itself is quite heavy but it is 25cm long and 65mm diameter! It’s now off to do lots more cutting before the next colour layer.
